Politically Speaking
12/23/2015
I comment on politics with some trepidation, but it is that time of year.
It seems to me that “political skills” are often synonymous with cunning and guile. King Solomon reminded us in Proverbs 12:2 that, “A good man obtains favor from the Lord, but the Lord condemns the crafty man.”
I see far too many politicians who compromise their values for the benefit of the party (in lieu of the country) for the rewards of prestigious committee positions and monetary appurtances while bartering favors that guarantee incumbency, which may be the Achilles tendon of a democracy.
Moreover, I see and hear a lot of boisterous talk by candidates from both parties, but they are light on achievements in public service or evidence of leadership. It reminds me of Ralph Waldo Emersion’s rant that, “What you do (or don’t do) thunders so loudly that I cannot hear what you say.”
Merry Christmas and a healthy New Year to all,
Jim Benson
