Showmanship versus Leadership

1/19/2015

It is important that we teach our youth leadership concepts, but first we must teach them not to confuse some contemporary politicians and celebrities with leaders.  There is a difference between showmanship and leadership.  One observable characteristic of true leaders is that they continuously display "intellectual honesty."  In other words, they say what they believe and mean and not just what they perceive their constituency wants to hear.  Duplicity or double-speak are deceptive words used by showmen that are intended to mislead and is the opposite of the intellectual honesty that we expect from true leaders.
