Transparent Leaders

One of the greatest challenges in leading is "management of organizational opinion" that manifests itself in rumors and gossip about the leader's intent and actions. I don't mean managing opinions as a pejorative action; leaders do it even if they don't realize they are doing it. The seasoned leader knows what is too much information and what is too little. I tend to error on the side of giving too much information in order to cultivate trust among the membership. However, there are minefields here too, because by describing the whys and wherefores of one's decisions, more is available to criticize and grouse about. Only experience and sound judgment lend themselves to the satisfaction of this conundrum.
